Frequently Asked Questions

When will my tree(s) be installed?

Upon completing the (3) step process required to sign up for a tree, staff will be in contact to coordinate a site visit to determine what tree species would be best suited for the property and to determine where the tree(s) will be planted. Planting will be coordinated on a first come first serve basis upon coordination of DigSafe during the Fall (August – December) or Spring (March – July) planting seasons.

How was the Planting Zone defined?

In collaboration with the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), the Town’s Planting Zone was established within the Town’s Environmental Justice neighborhood located in Hyannis based on factors including, but not limited to, density, existing tree canopy, and impervious surface. The objective of this project is to increase tree canopy by 5% within the Planting Zone over the course of three years.

Are the trees really free?

Yes, the trees are free upon completion of the Access and Watering Agreement Form which requires the tree(s) to be watered for (2) years after install.

Do you plant flowers, or shrubs?

No, the program strictly provides free trees with an objective to increase tree canopy within the Planting Zone by 5%.
